What Is Regrind Rubber?

Regrind is a factory term. When outsoles are cut out of a sheet of rubber, the sheet around them is left over. Regrind is that leftover rubber, ground down and blended into a new batch.

The outsole on THE MACAW LOCAL is the SUBTXT Regrind outsole, and it uses up to 25% regrind rubber. The regrind is scrap from the company that makes our outsoles in the Dominican Republic: the negative space left after the outsoles are cut out, and other scrap from production.

This is our own outsole. Our earlier outsoles were sourced from China. The Regrind outsole is made in Santiago, Dominican Republic, a short drive from DMG where the shoe is assembled, and in the same city as Bojos, the tannery that supplies the suede.

The tread is a wave pattern. It grips and still flexes with your foot.

The MACAW Golf and MACAW Skate use the Vibram Ecostep outsole with 30% recycled rubber. The Regrind outsole is on the MACAW Local now.
